Mediation is a method of alternative dispute resolution whereby the parties in a dispute meet with an impartial third party (mediator) and work collaboratively to identify the issues in dispute and to come up with a resolution that the parties can agree upon. The process is voluntary, confidential with the parties in complete control of the outcome as the mediator does not function as a judge or arbitrator. If the parties are unable to reach an agreement, they will walk away with a better understanding of the issues and interest(s) of the other part(ies) and they are free to pursue any legal remedies or alternative dispute resolutions options available to them.
